Pascoe Vale is changing. It’s seems to be at the juncture between the old and the
new – suburbia vs. gentrification, large backyards vs. blocks of units. We need a way to engage with the members of community and talk about the changing nature of the neighbourhood.
Flux community arts project
Like many other middle-ring suburbs across Melbourne, Pascoe Vale is currently undergoing a period of rapid transformation. Developers have been quick to take advantage of the area’s generous blocks of land while many of the older houses are being demolished to make way for townhouses and units. 'Flux' is an arts-based inquiry about a neighbourhood experiencing change and how this affects the people who call it home.
A Sense of Place
The term ‘sense of place’ is used to refer to the feelings people have for particular locations and the meaning they gain from a relationship with these places.
These developments not only alter the urban landscape, they also cause a rapid flow of people moving in and out of the area. Pascoe Vale is in a state of flux and we would like to know how this affects resident's 'sense of place'.
Get involved
Got something to say? We are looking to speak to anyone who would like to share their stories about the local area – from long-term residents to new arrivals, different generations, across all cultural backgrounds and abilities.
If you would like to meet up and share your story over a cup of tea and a chat, feel free to email flux.pascoevale@gmail.com or call and leave a message at Sussex Neighbourhood House on (03) 9354 2210
